The Viennese Ball Academy Timișoara is a landmark educational and cultural program in Romania, created to inspire and motivate young people through informal meetings with professionals from a variety of fields. It is much more than a preparation stage for the Viennese Ball—it is an experience that can change you.

Launched in 2018, the Academy is aimed at young people aged 16 to 24 from Timiș County and offers a different approach to education: through meetings with people who have something meaningful to share, dialogue, practical experience, and real-life examples from the professional world.

More than 1,500 young people have taken part in the BVT Academy so far, having the opportunity to meet some of the most relevant professionals and leaders from Romania and abroad. The Academy’s mentors and guests have included the ambassadors of the United States, Canada, Germany, Switzerland, and Austria, as well as Maia Morgenstern, Ioana Bugarin, conductor Cristian Măcelaru, astronaut Dumitru Prunariu, writer and communication specialist Andy Trincia, and professionals from companies such as Google, Profi, DRÄXLMAIER, TikTok Italy & Greece, Teoresi, and Continental.

The meetings with mentors are not lessons in the traditional sense of the word. Rather, they are conversations about communication, self-confidence, discipline, leadership, collaboration, elegance, dress code, attitude, and the courage to learn from people who have already built their own path. For those who choose to become debutantes or debutants, the Academy is also the beginning of the journey towards the Ball.

During September and October, participants meet weekly on Mondays and Wednesdays, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Over the course of one month, the program combines dance training with mentoring sessions, culminating in the selection of debutantes and debutants for the Timișoara Viennese Ball.

And no, you don’t need to know how to dance.

No previous experience is required. The instructors guide participants step by step, regardless of their starting level. What matters is the desire to learn and consistent attendance, which is one of the important criteria in the final selection process.

You can come alone or as a couple. Having a partner is not mandatory, but it is encouraged, as ballroom dances are performed in pairs and having a partner can be an advantage during the selection process.

For those who are selected to make their debut, the organizers provide, on a loan basis and against a deposit, the attire specific to the event: the gown for debutantes and the tailcoat for debutants.

For participants under the age of 18, written consent from a parent or legal guardian is required.

Ultimately, the Viennese Ball Academy Timișoara is about having the courage to take the first step, dance your first waltz, and discover the person you become along the way.

More details on workshop topics and mentors will be available on the social media pages of Balul Vienez Timișoara and Hațegan Foundation.
